The ECU file

ALADIN stores the diagnostics data in a so-called ECU file (extension *.ecu) after reading them from a controller (Upload). In ALADIN 6, the ECU file is third generation.

  • Format 1 - ALADIN 1.0 - ALADIN 2.x
  • Format 2 - ALADIN 3.0 - ALADIN 3.x
  • Format 3 - ALADIN 6.0

ALADIN 6 can display ECU files in all 3 formats using the Reporting function. ECU files are only created in Format 3 in ALADIN 6.

Differences between the versions:

Format 1 only contains parts of the data from the controller. This includes the fault memory, identification data, operating data, etc.
Since Format 2 (also known as Extended Format), the ECU file always contains a copy of the entire memory of a controller. Thus, ECU files created with old versions can also be analyzed with the latest Reporting functions.
Format 3 is able to store uploads of several ECUs and/or of different points in time in a file. These ECU files can also be compressed. It is possible to convert ECU files in Format 3 into ECU files of Format 2. This can be useful for using in other programs that cannot (yet) work with Format 3.
